Network Technician / Software Support Analyst

We have an immediate opening for a Network Technician / Software Support Analyst. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Network Administrator and will be available to the Support Team Leader as required.  This position involves maintaining in-house systems as well as aiding our customers with their setup and troubleshooting issues. A strong background in Windows Server administration and networking is essential. You will be provided with training on our software so that you will also be able to fill general and technical customer support needs as required.  This position does require availability for after hours, on call support, and being part of a regular pager rotation.

Qualifications/Skills Requirements

  • Information Technology Degree/Diploma or equivalent job experience (3+ years) with related technical courses
  • Education including technical writing or documentation preparation is an asset
  • Possess experience with enterprise mail systems (Microsoft Exchange 2007)
  • Hands-on experience administering a W2K3 and W2K8 server environment and the accompanying enterprise applications, such as Active Directory, MS Exchange server, database servers (Microsoft SQL 2005 and newer), web servers (Microsoft IIS v6 and newer), file servers, etc., is a must
  • Experience in desktop support for a PC environment supporting Windows 2000 and newer and the Microsoft Office Suite of applications and other general business related software
  • Networking experience with an excellent grasp in a Windows environment, server and desktop configurations
  • Ability to work under tight timeframes with a keen sense of urgency
  • Self motivated with good problem solving skills
  • Experience in any of the following would be of benefit: Virtual Iron, IBM Blade Chassis, Visual Basic or VB.NET Programming or customer phone support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, design, procurement and installation of server and database hardware, software and related equipment
  • Assist with server operating system and application upgrades, bug fixes and patching
  • Perform network and server troubleshooting, diagnostics, research, evaluation and documentation of various servers and data communications solutions and alternatives
  • Consult with technical staff, vendors & consultants when the cause of related problems are not apparent
  • Participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all production systems, software, and communication links
  • Respond, troubleshoot and document resolutions for day-to-day helpdesk requests, including software, hardware and network problems
  • Assist with asset management of all IT resources
  • Assist with ensuring all corporate assets and intellectual property are backed up and back ups are maintained offsite
  • Configure, install and maintain software and hardware such as personal computers, systems software, software applications, printers, telephones, servers, firewalls, switches, modem cabling and Internet service providers, and general office equipment
  • Assist to coordinate management of backup and restore environment for all servers and desktops
  • Assist department to ensure hardware, software and network are available 98+ per cent of the time on 24/7 basis, excluding scheduled downtime
  • Perform moderate programming and scripting tasks (Power Shell, DOS Batch files, VB Script, etc.)
  • Develop systems and reporting documentation for management as required
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of policies, standards and procedures
  • Perform other related duties and projects as required
  • Report to the IT Committee on the status of all tasks, through biweekly meetings.

Bilingual Technical Support Specialist/ Customer Support (MW-SUP01)
 
Terms of Employment
Permanent, Full Time, Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours shifts between 8:30am to 7pm.
Location: London, Ontario
Start Date: As soon as possible 

Requirements
Education: Completion of college or university. 
Experience: Experience an asset, but willing to train. 
Languages: Speak, Read, Write French and English.

Specific Skills
Provide telephone or e-mail support for customer products, to provide end users with hardware/software support for consumer products, to perform diagnostics of problems over telephone or email, to include troubleshooting, defining and explaining the problem, and "walking the customer through" the solution and to accurately document support cases. Translate end user documentation to French.

Essential Skills
Bilingualism (French and English) is a requirement for this position.

Computer and Technology Knowledge
The candidate must possess strong personal computer skills, and excellent problem solving skills. Experience in troubleshooting in a Windows environment essential.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
Fast-paced environment, Attention to detail. A willingness to travel would be beneficial to this position.
